Junaid Islam serves as the Software Defined Perimeter (SDP) Workgroup Co-Chair along with Bob Flores. As the SDP Co-chair, Junaid supports a number of US national cyber security initiatives.
In September 2014 Junaid Islam recieved the Ron Knode Service Award from the Cloud Security Alliance in recognition of leading the SDP standards efforts. In August 2016 Junaid Islam received the title of CSA Research Fellow.

The Human Relations Commission of Santa Clara County was founded in 1972 to foster positive community relations. The HRC is one of the leading civic organizations in the United States having developed widely policies in areas ranging from immigration to police conduct to health care.
Junaid Islam was appointed to the Human Relations Commission in 2002 & served as Chair from 2007 to 2009.
